At the hit of a button and with the help of a simple web interface, followers get a Twitter alert. The baker can sign into his or her Bakertweet account, customise the items on offer, and keep their list of products up to date for customers.”

We’re heading North for the summer. Two of our team members Tim Klein and Lexi Thorn will be heading to Webstock in Wellington 15-19th February 2010. “5 full-on days. 13 hands-on workshops. 20 kickass international speakers. 24 must-see presentations. Design, development, mobile, usability, content, community, open data, innovation & inspiration.”

Tim will be representing the development side of things with a keen interest in SilverStripe, and Lexi will be representing the design side. We’re both really looking forward to this event, and we’ll post updates throughout.

“An idea that just sits there is worthless. But an idea that moves and grows and infects everyone it touches… that’s an ideavirus.” Seth Godin, Unleashing the Idea Virus.

Seth discusses concepts which have been common to modern marketing for some time, but by putting his own slant on things and introducing terms such as “hive, sneezers, virus, and vaccum”, he asks some poignant questions:

• If you’re trying to get your product or company known, is it worth talking about?
• Have you identified the ‘hive’?
• How easy is it for potential “sneezers” to spread your idea?

The basic concept is that if you can get your idea out to the right people, and they endorse it, then they’ll talk about it to others through “word of mouse” (word of mouth online), and that’s how you’ll get your product known and sold. Sounds simple huh?
