I was fortunate enough to be in London when the Internet wave hit in early 90s which led me to be exposed to some pretty cool stuff, that’s why I’m still in the industry. So it’s good to see it from the conception to what it has become now, and we’ve got some way to go yet…

What’s the best thing about owning your own business?

The most rewarding thing is being able to see people within the company working together. We all have different skills sets, so when a job calls for everyone to get involved its exciting. Each person that has joined the team has brought some really valuable skills to the table.

What would you like to see more of in websites?

Integration of videos is quite exciting, links of video and static content. Having information divided between the two.

Best thing about working for Kelp Design?

I think we have a fairly various work environment which makes it interesting. Queenstown is a great place to work and play, the merger of the two is what makes it unique in respect to other places I have lived.

How long have you been in the industry?

I’ve been in Web Design for 8 years ranging from a company of 2 to one with 150 employees. In London I had a specialist job role just because the company was so big but it’s been great coming back to New Zealand being able to broaden my skills but knowing also that I have specialist skills that I can use when the right projects come along or or even on small projects that I do for my clients.

What do you do to ensure that client needs are met?

Listening to our clients, communicating and trying to uncover what it is they are trying to achieve with business and with their website because their website is a really integral part of their business.

Do you have any specialisation?

Yes, I think my biggest interest and specialisation is in usability information architecture which is about how can you research and analyse users in a way to create systems to research their goals. To make it efficient and effective for users.

You’ve traveled quite extensively, where is your favourite place?

Jonathan Dixon

Search Engine Optimisation Specialist

What background do you have?

I’ve got a wide background that covers security, human resource development, paralegal and managing my own business. But most recently I have been honing my skills in SEO.

Tell us about what you do for a company?

If they have a business and they want a high yield return, exploitation of their business the internet is like a shopping mall with 100 million people browsing through it at all times of the day so you want your shop to be at the front of that shopping mall. My job is to place your shop at the front of that mall or as close to it as I possibly can.

How much about web design has changed since you first became involved?

More competitive, as web progresses in evolution, I see it that as people evolve they understand the importance of exactly how vital SEO is to their business. It’s gone from stone age to space age within a few years.
